The Tamil actor, who earlier signed the movie Naan Rudhran as an actor and director in 2016, later opted out. Hence, the film could never materialize. Now, Thenandal Films has sent a Rs. 20 crore notice to Dhanush, giving him a week to respond.
February 19: Tamil superstar Dhanush has found himself in a legal conflict. He has reportedly received a Rs. 20 crore legal notice from the production house Thenandal Films. The company seeks the said amount in compensation for allegedly delaying a 2016 project, Naan Rudhran, which Dhanush was supposed to direct and act in.
Dhanush had assured the company that he would act in the movie and also direct it. Accordingly, it invested nearly Rs. 20 crore. The money was spent as advance payments and pre-production expenses. It included payments to other stars such as SJ Suryah and Nagarjuna, who were expected to star in the film. But according to the production house, the film was stalled halfway through since Dhanush couldn’t complete the script.
Dhanush has been given a week to respond to the legal notice issued through advocate A Chidambaram. He may have to confirm whether he will honor the earlier agreement and provide dates to complete the project. If not, he will have to repay the Rs. 20 crore that the company claims to have spent, along with an additional Rs. 1 crore compensation. The production company has also said that it will take legal action if Dhanush does not settle the matter within the stipulated time. The notice also claims that the project was stalled midway as Dhanush gave call sheets to other projects before completing this one.
Actor Dhanush is yet to respond publicly to this matter.
Despite a massive legal controversy like this, Dhanush’s career momentum remains strong. He has announced his next film, currently titled D55. The director of the film will be Rajkumar Perisamy, known for Amaran.
